Measure affects K-12 schools, higher education, city-owned venues
GLENDALE, ARIZ. – Proposition 499 affects far more than just hotels according to a recent analysis, putting thousands of jobs citywide at risk of elimination.
Any structure larger than 20,000 square feet, regardless of whether it is privately or publicly owned, would fall under Proposition 499. The measure makes no distinction between a structure’s primary function and any secondary uses.
“The out-of-state special interests pushing Proposition 499 have drafted a measure that is breathtaking in its scope and potential to inflict damage,” Save Glendale Jobs Chair Kim Grace Sabow said. “Regardless of whether it was the proponents’ actual intent, or they were just plain sloppy, Proposition 499 will negatively affect so many venues of all types and uses and put the jobs they create on the chopping block.”
