Chambers of commerce say measure bad for jobs, bad for taxpayers
GLENDALE, ARIZ. – The state and local business community is rallying in opposition to Glendale Proposition 499, one of the most economically damaging measures to appear on an Arizona ballot in recent memory. The initiative, backed by an out-of-state labor union, has been strongly opposed by the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the West Valley Chamber of Commerce Alliance.

“Similar ordinances have had disastrous effects in California, resulting in reduced hours and layoffs for employees, higher prices for travelers, and new costs for taxpayers. Glendale cannot afford to follow this failed model.”
Glendale Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Joshua Gunn in the Glendale Star
Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry
“This is a bad deal for Glendale’s tourism industry, its workers, and its taxpayers. The Arizona Chamber strongly urges Glendale voters to reject this California union boondoggle and vote NO.”
Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry President and CEO Danny Seiden

West Valley Chamber of Commerce Alliance
“It’s not just workers who lose. This ordinance would also force Glendale hotels to raise room rates, causing travelers to look elsewhere, which is bad news for Glendale businesses that depend on tourists. And taxpayers lose, too. The ordinance requires the City of Glendale to open an entirely new government office, but with no way to pay for it. So, the city can either cut services, or it can raise taxes. We urge you to save tourism jobs and protect Glendale taxpayers. Vote NO.”
Deanna Kupcik, president, West Valley Chamber of Commerce Alliance
